While the rest of the country ties itself in knots over the Brexit vote I'm going to start restoring a Beetonette cooking range. Its raining quite a bit at present and so no building work for me to do and as the devil makes work etc I may as well amuse myself with some rusty old cast iron.

Funnily enough I've been doing lots and lots of fence replacement (and driving the odd intercity) to keep my mind off the referendum.
I'll expect it to be done by my next visit so I can whip up a batch of fairy cakes and bake them in it :)
Lovely piece there, Thud.
When we got rid of our old Raeburn, (it was too far gone to work here), the guy who bought it said that they would shot-blast all the old enamel off it, and rebuild the thing from scratch!
We were so fed up with all the dents, chips and scratches, that we painted it with Hammerite, and it didn't look half bad for a year or so...
I used to be a shot (grit) blaster in one of my many jobs (cleaning jet aeroplane engine parts.)
I loved it. It was one of the most satisfying and therapeutic jobs I've ever done. If it were not for money and ambition I'd still be doing it now - fool that I am !
Turning something from utter crap to like brand spanking new.
I lose sleep about my present job. I'm not happy in it.
Kev, there is something addictive about making things whole again,I think about what to do next all the time, cars, guitars, houses etc.
Buy your own grit blaster, Thud. You'll have a... blast !
(You'll need a trichloroethylene bath too, remembering not to breath the vapour in)
Hello Thud,
You sure do get stuck into some
interesting projects, I admire
you for your tenacity....What will
you do with your stove when the task
is complete, if not already?
Cheers,
Di xx
Hello to Kevin long time no talk....not good...we need Electro back and we need him now xxx
Trubes, there is a little gardeners cottage in the corner of my courtyard and I want to try and do a simple refurb as it may once have looked. It is not really habitable just a place for me to store stuff etc.
