The weather forecast for England this week is rather nasty, so for the rest of the week my merry men and I will be attempting to make a set of Gothic bargeboards. It is not a job we have tried before but occasionally amongst the usual mundane building tasks something new and challenging can come as a relief.A winter spent working on drains and roofs can be rather soul destroying so our attempts at fine detail work should prove amusing...to those of us admittedly with a sense of humour of a certain type. The Gothic arch style glazing bars we fitted over the last two weeks have been a great success so I am hoping that the bargeboards will further lift the project building out of anonymity into a world of Gothic excess.......now where are the plans for the moat?

Going goth.

Achhh .... I am jealous! Somewhere, somewhere in the moving trailer are my large books of architectural ornamentation. I used to sit or hours absorbing the amazing details. The Katlady finally sent me a strange volume to tide me over which analyzed symbolism in 'gingerbread'. I personally think the author was a raging dirty old man but you can see where perhaps a carpenter with a naughty sense of humor (or in revenge) might have slipped in a few zingers. Hilarious.
