True Brit 5
Oliver Cromwell is in British minds loved and reviled in equal measures...he is a difficult man to warm to,even to admirers. He did personify though a certain type of Briton...of average birth and of no discernible talents he grew in stature to fill the nations need in a time of great turmoil.Sovereignty was wrested from The king and firmly placed in the hands of Parliament.....a Parliament swept of malingerers and corruption.A great Captain in war he also brought about the foundation of the British empire...truly a great man..plus the Irish hate him, always a plus I feel!

Forgive the curmudgeonly point, but Cromwell was English, not British, and I rather suspect that he would have wasted little time i telling you (or anybody else) so.
He was, however, as true an Englishman who ever lived...
Fair enough!...however true Brit rhymes with true grit...a fav of mind..yes simple I know!
