Bits and bobs

Whilst in lucca recently the chaps and I spent much of our time poking our noses into anywhere that seemed to promise any little architectural secrets or cheap drink (once a scouser etc). It is quite easy to be overwhelmed by the multitude of renaissance palazzos and churches but for me God is in the detail and as such the picture above is a perfect example of what makes Thud happy! The care and ingenuity that went into this wrought iron banister is a joy to behold and whilst functional just seems to say everything about the pride of its maker in his craft.Craft, pride and joy are often bandied about by people when enthusing about some trite ephemera....this for me is truly an object of if not beauty then desire.....strange but true!

I think something like that is very desirous...compared to Home Depot/B&Q junk!
