More please...or maybe not.

I took my blogging Friend Lord Roby for a meal last night in a local restaurant for a belated birthday celebration. Fraiche is the only Michelin starred restaurant in our part of the country and despite my love of more simple fare we decided to give it a whirl. The experience although pleasant was rather underwhelming however as the old 90's style nouvelle cuisine seemed affected and just plain dated. Upon being offered a champagne cocktail containing a hibiscus flower which was supposed to be eaten afterwards I knew I was out of my comfort zone straight away. Without sounding rather like a neanderthal I think my days eating in such places are firmly like the food offered, something that shall remain in the past. Given my Liverpool Irish heritage,Chinese wife and love of Italian food I think more robust flavours and portions are the order of the day. All was not lost however as my companions were on good form and upon retiring home a bottle of Vinogirls finest and some calvados soon put things right with the world.

I would not know which fork to use and thank god for
booze. I do like take away for that reason. I can still eat with my elbows on the table.

I always keep a very good crunchy pork pie in the fridge and a bottle of claret on the go so that I can top up when I get home from restaurants like this. I never knowingly book a table at them.

The only thing I would go back for is the 50 year old Calvados and the Grapes A La C02.That chinese takeaway sure was tempting on the way out the door.

Yay for the vino! Now they need a new-nouvelle, the old one is as dated as a mullett.
