Thats the way to do it.

Plaster board or sheet rock may be easy and convenient but the above picture shows just how walls should be put up (in old houses anyway).Lime putty, goat hair, chestnut or oak lath make for walls that look great and more importantly move and breathe with the main structure. Modern products do have their place in house restoration but the constant flexing and movement of old houses tends to cause quite severe failures in cementitious coatings and especially in coats of modern plaster.I am far from a period house taliban but I do try to replace like for like as long as it doesn't result in a house that is some hideous modern pastiche...plenty of them around already.

That's like my parents house, built in 1918 or so - the new products are just bigger faster cheaper stuff.
