Up on the roof.

I finally got the keys to my new house on the weekend and have spent the last few days working out a schedule of works and just generally getting a feeling for the history of the main house before starting the restoration process. Whilst on the roof taking note of the ravages of a couple of hundred years worth of winters I photographed some of the buildings that come with the house. All very pretty in a rather dilapidated, neglected way but crying out for the spending of large amounts of time and money.Trying to work out the build sequence of these and other scattered cottages is proving rather interesting and I now think however I will give them another year or two of respite as I rather enjoy the gentle air of neglect and decay....so why the hurry?

scrobs...I am very happy with the place and the work to come but I just hope I can keep my ever suffering wife on board...how many building sites can the poor woman stand?

Really nice place - do you renovate and flip houses? I put in my own ceramic tile in the basement once - hardest thing I ever did.

Thud said...

Candle...I restore period houses and eventually sell them so flipping them would be a slightly quicker process than I can manage I think.Considering your struggles against a patriarchal capitalist world your tiling is to be commended.

Lol. Sounds pretty cool. I wish I had the skill. I've always wanted to try making my own wooden furniture...little easier to get started than building/fixing houses. We need to get a bigger house with a work room. A socialist/wican/vegan workroom of course....

Mr Thud.....I'm amazed ,what happened to you in the intervening years since last we gabbed as scabby skoolboys.
It looks like me grannies old farmhouse over in Ireland...Hey, you don't fancy putting that back together its been left to stand and decay for a while now.

Wow Thud, What an exciting time for you and such an interesting project.
If you renovate your cottages please keep DT and Moi in mind as future suitable tenants.
We could be considered as 'old retainers' and would be happy to perform light duties around the main residence.
DT is a whizz at maintaining lawns and I'm a jem in the kitchen, also well experienced in babysitting!
Also DT could double up as Butler at social events.
Voila! Domestic staff sorted!

I've a good idea of where your new place is, I used to know a lady who lived in that area.

Seriously, I hope that you and Mme. OTW, along with the darling litle Cherubs are really happy in your new home.x
