Today's post is dedicated to all those involved in the evacuation of the British army from certain defeat and capture at Dunkirk, all true Brits. The captains and owners of the many boats both small and large answered the call and at great risk crossed the Channel snatching the beleaguered British (and French) forces off the death trap beaches, returning them to England and a chance to fight again.The phrase "Dunkirk spirit" is often derided by those who despise our history but that spirit is a constant refrain throughout Britain's long history and long may it be so.

It was marvellous to see the flotilla leaving Ramsgate today, it still is quite a trek!
Amen to that.
Nice to see the boats in good order,there is a landing craft tank(LCT 7074),Landfall which was used on D Day, rusting away in Birkenhead docks,last seen by the old morter dock,shame all that happens to it is they move it around the docks,unloved by all even though it's supposed to be on the UK National Historic Fleet register.
I remember being on the landfall when it was a nightclub of rather shady repute...fascinating even then.
My Uncle Jack who was twenty one at the time, was rescued from Dunkirk, only to be captured later, by the Germans on a Greek Island and subsequently shot.
It hit my Grandma badly, she never really stopped mourning him......
Bloody War, so futile...all for the lust for glory by vainglorious, strutting leaders.
