A favourite blogger of mine Sippican cottage has in a recent post listed what he considers to be essential tools for construction, diy etc. Sippican is a man of many talents (fine furniture making being one) and I would be loathe to disagree with his list but I do think an addition needs to be made for those of an 'English disposition'. For any tool to be even lifted in England one thing is needed before anything...tea...lots of it and preferably served in heavily stained and chipped mug. When pricing up a job here it is essential that the amount and regularity of tea breaks be calculated before anything as mundane as materials are ordered.Today we replaced several courses of degraded brick with some brick reclaimed from a nearby building we are demolishing....a 15 mug job to be precise...cost?...I have no idea, no wonder I only work for myself.
