Bootleg.

Now that the ground has thawed out (it did snow again today though) I plan to spend this weekend getting in some bare root fruit trees. My trees when added to the ones I planted last year and the already existing trees should enable me to make several hundred gallons of cider and apple juice within the next couple of years. Now I like cider and apple juice but the ultimate aim would be to produce some apple brandy (Calvados). Apparently home distillation of spirits is against the law and as a law abiding chap I would not like to condone any law breaking nor deny Her Majesty's revenue and customs dept any due revenue...would I? We do however have some suspicious looking copper fittings and piping lurking on the property and I can only imagine what a devious individual could rig up if they had say.....an unused coach house, I shall keep you informed.

In France, you are allowed to concoct a little bit of moonshine. Why is it we always get the shitty end of the stick with the EU?

LR...why do we take any bloody notice?

Just don't blow the coach house up!

Good idea Thudders!

Down here, we have apples which cry out to be used for this sort of attention, and of course, supermarkets shun most of them because they are not French Golden Delicious, which is what sheep eat.

Don't worry about a still, just put it all in your freezer...

Several hundred gallons? Bloody hell - how many are you planting?

Thud said...

James...some big old apple trees here to help the new ones along.

You might find this place< very educational I'm sure they would grant a bona fide student such as you full access to the distillery for research purposes.

Perfectly legal here. If you intend to make over a certain amount, which I recall is quite a lot, you're supposed to notify The Authorities.

Shotgun license? Really? You don't just go buy one? That's severe.

Saw a vid clip a bit ago of police stopping citizens from taking pictures of crimes being committed in their neighborhoods by Muslims. Saw another of a BNP candidate being forcibly removed from hustings by police for no reason other than Labor didn't want him there.

I've seen a lot of other things like that going on in your country and I have to tell you, what you have there bears no resemblance whatever to a democracy. What you have is a police state. A dictatorship. You people have given up all your rights without a peep.

The British put down the French as effete and cowardly but the French are standing up for themselves against the Muslims. You people are doing nothing. You're submitting. Who's effete?

I'm of English descent and the way you're all caving in like gutless wonders really pisses me off.

Black sheep...the govt work overtime to keep a lid on things but there is more violence and resistance than you are ever told about....the English are slow to anger but when aroused they are thorough in their work! mind you at least we are not giving up are nation to mexico, a third world shithole if there ever was.

Black Sheep...The last time you lot had a political riot was 1773! Quando,Quando,Quando Quando!

Black Sheep said...

Thud.. good! The more unrest the better. And btw, my intent is that when people get angry then they finally get going and I'm trying to aid the process. Nothing personal to you.

Lord Roby... no student of history there. There were a lot of riots with fatalities over the Vietnam War, just for only one example.

As for Mexico, I agree. Our government is selling us out just as badly as yours is you. In fact, if you're paying attention you'll see that we've literally been moving in lockstep for years now. I listen to the public bickering between our nations leaders and then see how that's just for our consumption as they continue to act like Siamese twins. Makes me wonder who's really running both of us.

Thud stops in and reads my blog on occasion so he knows pretty much where I'm coming from. I'm a lot harder on my leaders than I am on yours. Of course, they deserve it and worse.

B.S. I enjoy your blog because you are hard on your pols and as I have a foot in both countries I like to see which way the wind is blowing. The Mexican question does cause me some concern as I always viewed America as my last refuge ( for my little uns in particular) but am I running to trouble if I leave this decaying country?....what to do now hey?

Thud/Black Sheep.I have been an advocate of the Politicians:Get shut of the lot of them party for some time now.Since they were only invented to represent the masses when we could not represent ourselves. Now we can, electronically, they are completely redundant. As for the argument 'Would you trust Sun/National Enquirer readers with your country? Well it appears that some deal was done with Rupert Murdoch. The Sun,who as we all know 'picks' the election winners jumps ship to the Tories just before the election, just after the election, the BBC licence fee is frozen for 5 years and Murdoch is encouraged to continue his world dominance of the media. As for history I am firmly in the Henry Ford party.Bunk!
P.S. Did you know Black Sheep, that every phone call, email and text in this dictatorship is recorded and kept for 10 years by law!

Every email etc? No, I had no idea but that's sure another proof of a police state.

If I were going to escape England, my own best bet would be the U.S., for a number of reasons. Because the country is so large and diverse, there are many rural areas, and I do mean many, where you can hunt game without a license all year around, grow pot in the back lot, and pretty much do what you like without being bothered as long as you don't screw with your neighbors, and I've lived in a few of them. I live in one now except for the game hunting and if I moved out a little farther I could do that too.

My point is that controlling so many backwoods areas is pretty much impossible both economically and geographically. Us natives stick together. I lived in one place where no police officer could get name recognition from one single resident of the area of another resident. Ever. What would happen instead is some local would come around and tell you that the Man was looking for you.

Pretty much everyone here owns guns. The guy next door has a closet full of rifles and shotguns and I have a few myself and lots of ammo. We will never be disarmed and we will never submit to registering our rifles and shotguns.

We speak English here as a first language even tho it was never made official, plus if things should ever get too bad, Canada is next door and Alaska will never be tamed, I don't care if they nuke it.

Yes, I do know about Rupert Murdoch and I have to laugh at the brilliant idiot. He promoted Obama for president, no doubt whatever that there was a deal going on between them that Obama reneged on, because within a year after the election he turned against Obama pretty harshly. He owns Fox News and uses that to castigate the Kenyan on a regular basis. I was thrilled to see it.

Anyway, yes, this is the last best bastion, absolutely.

B.S. The feeling of running away doesn't sit well with me but I have very young children to consider so you are preaching to the converted.

Thuds, I believe all you really need is an old hot water cylinder with a coil in it.

So somebody told me.
