Plumbers mate

Opening the box that contained the pictured tap revealed the tap and no fitting instructions, easily solved you may think. Being the experienced chaps we are we gave it two coats of looking over and then sat down for a quick brew.A quick search of the intertunnel revealed the tech specifications in the form of a pdf so all was well....only it wasn't as the pdf declared "some taps may have different fittings"...hmmmm indeed they do. A call to the customer service line was the final weapon in our armoury, result " experienced plumbers should know what to do" well that's us buggered then. In the great tradition of bodging we have worked out a quite elegant solution, it probably won't work but it will look good, jobs a good un!

I had a drippy washer on a fancy mixer tap at the scout hut. I tried to replace it but it was like a Chinese puzzle to get apart and the tap ended up getting totally fucked in the process.

I bought a new, basic, one and got it back. Of course there was a gap of one inch between the braded hose and pipe couplers ... back the the merchants ....

Some fittings are just too bloody clever for their own good.

(Now I've learned how to solder pipework I'm a lot happier about doing such things.)

I replaced a brass garden tap only to discover that when tightened against the wall attachment the spout pointed upwards. I botched with a rubber gasket spacer to turn the tap the right way up but the winter perished the internal valve so I had to buy another. This one, same model same manufacturer had another 1/8" thread and has worked perfectly with no leaks.

"experienced plumbers should know what to do"...

That's the sort of comment which goes down very well with some firms; very well indeed...

I think we've got their stuff on one of our branded hotel schemes. Possible cost about £3,750 per room. No of rooms 315.

I'll check but I think we can change that and get something better.

Loss to said firm - ooohh - about £1,181,000.

And there are seven more in the brand as well, so total loss just over eight mill, and that's this year; there are eight more next year and ten the following year...

;0)

I bought a sink mixer tap with those fancy ceramic disk thingies instead of proper rubber washers. "Last a lifetime" said the salesman.

Well maybe, but not in an areas where the incoming mains is at 180psi.

After a few months a drip, after a few more weeks a small steady trickle.

New ceramic washers mate? £20 a time.

In the skip it went. Replacement has proper rubber washers at 10p each.

Oddly, after a few months - still no drips.

Tossers, aren't they.
