Not bleedin likely.
I was due to start lime washing the new render this week when at the last moment I had a change of heart ( lazy...who me?). 550 sq mtrs of render,5 coats, some of it needing to go on 40 ft up gave me enough reason to search for a viable alternative. This paint is the one I've chosen instead as it seems to perform all of the functions that lime wash traditionally does. I do try to use traditional techniques and materials when I can but a new product that performs the task equally and with greater ease is not to be sneezed at (not too new, silica paint is over 150 years old)

Whitewash in India was annoying to this kid, probably because anything expensive (like binders in the paint) was missing -- the chalky consistency and they way it could brush-off onto clothes always bugged me. Gave-away the game if you'd just climbed a fence or wall.
DC...Egg is a good binder in limewash but probably too good to waste in India.
Anything edible was too good to waste! The only strict vegetarians were those wealthy enough to flaunt their status, or those working to improve it - and Brahmins for whom it was a precondition - it's all a status-game there.
But most including Brahmins eat chickens (and eggs) and everyone eats milk products, and if you lived out by the forest all kinds of other things... And fish too (are not considered un-vegetarian).
Vegans are/were people who are teched in the head.
DC...you are an honoury member of the Raj!
