A house needs a good hat and boots, and today the roofers finished the new hat on the gate lodge. The Welsh slate looks very smart with its lozenge shaped ornamental courses and most importantly it's watertight. The brickies can hopefully start the stonework in the next few days so I can have a finished shell to work on when I return from America in September. The realisation that I have to start Autumn planning now is a bit of a shock though...what happened to our summer?

The pattern in the slate looks great!
A very smart roofing job, well done to your guys.
Question. Is it usual to have the floor joists seated right inside the block walls like that? I am pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed in Scotland, but perhaps your drier climate makes it OK? Or are these not "normal" floor joists?
WY...joists above dpc and conc pad with ends wrapped so we should be good or so the theory goes.
I don't think I would have picked grey.
... blockwork that is.
