Friday Slade

To my eternal gratitude my big sister risked her musical credibility way back in the seventies and took a very young Thud to see Slade at the Liverpool Empire and I've loved them ever since (her too!). I meet people who tell me about growing up listening to soul, disco, tamla etc, if you were white and working class in 1970's Huyton then this was the soundtrack of your life.

Yay! One of the highlights of my life, thus far, was meeting Noddy and Don Powell at Porky Prime Cuts.

I used to watch a band called The Steve Wally Band.

They were utterly brilliant. I think you would have loved them. (I recall that they never used the same drummer twice so technically weren't a band at all)

I got Steve's telephone number and contacted him regularly for gig lists (pre internet days) and followed his band. I have to say that I've only ever been motivated to follow two bands and the other is Muse.

What became of The Steve Wally Band ? Well Malcom (the bassist) joined Simple Minds and tours with them. And Steve ?

Why. He took Noddy Holder's place in Slade of course !

(He has a Simon Templer The Saint tattoo on his left forearm and plays a white Fender Strat)

I love his voice!!! Sexy. Rock and roll fiddle has always been woefully under-done, too. And the gogo booted fan girls is gravy.
