The sound of victory

Working outside today I was disturbed in my weeding of the veggie patch by the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine or rather two Merlins as a brace of spitfires passed low overhead. I'm not sure where they were going but for me there cannot be a more glorious sound or sight than a Spitfire in an English sky, cliched I know but what a cliche.

Probably the RAF Reserve Flight on its way to Libya...........and probably just as effective as a Tornado!

What a cliche indeed. A fortunate weeding experience I would say. Tx for the pic.

Weeding and the sound of a Merlin are quintessential British pastimes...

I was doing the same when the Red Arrows flew over as spick and span as you can ever see them. They were on their way to a show on the South Coast, in tight formation.

The next week, one poor chap in the team died in a tragedy.
