Sad man

I do realise that when it comes to building materials I am a rather sad individual, something I tend to realise as peoples eyes glaze over as I go on and on  about stone, wood, cast iron and all things bright and to me beautiful. My latest source of delight is the red sandstone paving slabs that were delivered last week. I have been looking for affordable and quality stone paving for a couple of years now and have only found stone of the right type recently. You can buy tons of Chinese and Indian stone but to put it mildly it is total crap, stone isn't just stone! The building material of Cheshire and Merseyside has been red sandstone for the last couple of thousand years (Roman Chester) and contributes greatly to the beauty of the local countryside. The spread of materials from other parts of the world has cause many areas to lose their regional flavour and in doing so everybody suffers. So  this sad individual is actually happy today!

You are right. We went for Indian sandstone. It has only been down a few years and already it is showing signs of wear.

CW... the Indian stuff just doesn't weather well here as it is much less dense than local stone although the price does make it attractive.

The Indians go barefoot. That's why their stone is suitable over there.

Thank you for the offer we do have some surplus flags. We shall have to live with them for the moment. We are not taking them up.
