Daily grind
I spent some time at the masons yard this Morning scribing away on the head of one of my lancet windows. The moulding for the hood/label is a simple gothic design but getting the proportions right was more difficult than I thought so at six tonight when I revisit I'll either have a great looking design or another addition to the skip.....and this is the easy one.

There used to be a mason's yard a few minutes away from us, on the other side of the church (surprisingly..)! There are quite a few headstones in the churchyard, with the same design. They're quite thick and with an intriguing design at the shoulders, so I like to assume that they were all made up just a few feet away.
I was told that the village church took so long to build, not so much because there was not enough material, but it was the tools which were so scarce!
Probably, there wasn't a Wickes about then..;0)
Do masons still use all those golden ratios and such like that the medieval guys used to?
Maybe that's a short cut to getting proportions that look "just so".
It seems to have worked out ok in Chartres or Canterbury.
WY,with the addition of power tools for roughing out everything is exactly as it was, a fact I find quite reassuring.
