Johnny Ramone guitar build 2

Its raining outside so time for a bit of indoor work today, so I set to sanding and filling the Mosrite copy I'm making. First job today was just sanding with 240 grade to take out machine marks on body prior to applying grain filler.I mixed up a grain filler/white spirit slurry and spread on body with a cloth and now it will be left overnight to dry before flatting back with 240 again. The body is made of a cheap (rubber) wood and so is quite porous and is going to need quite a bit of work before painting.....better than being out in the rain though.

Nice bit of work Thud!

I found that I'd got the balance very wrong when I made the EK bass. I'd used chipboard for the body, veneered with thin plywood, and the head and fretboard was far too heavy, so the strap had to be extended to the machine head, like a Spanish guitar!

Not cool...

BTW, do you ever use flat-wound strings these days? I used to have loads from way back, and they don't seem to be popular now! I've still got them on my Yamaha electric guitar, and they don't squeak!

What a talented guy you are Thud,
Iam most impressed, can't wait to see the finished product, totally
amazing.
Are you keeping well, I sort of got the feeling that you had health
issues, I do hope not?
Just call me Mystic Di!
My daughters call me (in the nicest way) a white witch because I have
often been able to see things that were about to happen....Spooky!
Hope all is good in Thud land.
Best regards,
Di. xx

Trubes, without going too much into detail you are on the right track, my mum lives in a cottage back of mine and she is seriously ill so we are now in a holding pattern just making the most of time, but day to day we are all happy with our lot.

Thud,
I am so sorry to learn about your dear Mum,
I do hope she comfortable and I know you will
be doing all you can to look after her.
I remember you lovingly restoring the lodge house.
God bless her.
Prayers for you all,
love Di xx

Sorry news about Mum, Thud.

Just to say that we're all expecting her to start bopping soon, and that there are many of us out here on your side.

'The Bothy' needs a good chum and resident for much longer yet!

I've been a member of this forum for 5 years or so (post in my own name.) There are several experts on guitar building happy to advise. Jocko in particular.

He has made a number of strats with 'Jocko' instead of Fender on the headstock. Jocko 1, Jocko 2... and on.

Best to your Mum. As you know my own Dad is gravely ill at the moment with bone cancer. A really bad way to go.

Ta for that Kev...I need all the help I can get especially when I get to neck set, fret dressing etc.
I know you have been going through this with your Dad for a while, this getting old shit is crap but it does make me more appreciative of the small things, for what its worth my prayers are with you.

Thanks, Thud. That means a lot - and visa versa. Also Michael's tribute to me in guitar form is much appreciated even though it is flawed. (Well what did he expect if he modelled it after me !)
