The chaps and I decided to have a day working on some detail work such as making up architrave test pieces. As a result we brought in some young lads who do occasional work around the property and gave them some more basic work to do as we pretended to be more than just glorified navvies. The main task for the young lads was a knock through from one side of a stone wall into another room. Setting the job up meant instructing in the usage of one of the unsung heroes of construction...the acro prop (screw jack?). This simple bit of kit when used,enables even the daftest of builder to work without the building coming down upon ones head...well most of the time anyway. The correct placement of the props does make any removal of walls,joists and lintels a breeze...so simple,so effective.
