Doctor Doctor!

It seems my daughter princess otw has Roseola....thankfully she seems to have come through the experience unscathed.I have as a prudent father made sure that my little angel is fully insured for this extended trip to America....but...howcome I miss the smothering embrace of the National health service? I found myself for a few days wishing that I was back over the water just minutes away from the very efficient local baby health clinic we use.I know logically that the N.H.S. is a runaway disaster populated by way too many bureaucrats but in my heart I feel safe knowing the service I need is just a minute or a call away.Perhaps life in the quasi socialist U.K. has warped me completely but I must admit.....as I write this now I miss the N.H.S. I'm sure that the service here would be every bit as good as in the U.K. but I just have 40 odd years of conditioning telling me that social medicine is best..as a free marketeer thats a bit of a blow...somebody get me a doctor!

hey thud
i would have to agree that one thing i would probable miss would be the NHS if i were to move away. oh and proper british beer.
i dont know if i have said before but i recently watched SICKO the new Michael Moore film and this did raise some concerns to the health service in the USA however i am a great believer of two sides to every story and do not believe everything i see or hear.
we both over the water are glad little OTW is ok as im sure it didnt really bother her as much as it did you. we also find it quite amusing that it was called ROSEOLA!! haha.

Heck, Wal-Mart has Clinics now all over the place! Most visits are $65 in and out, no lines.
But we have Kaiser...
My extended friends who are really into beer brew their own since it's no longer illegal, and craft some pretty fine stuff.

As I stay here more often in Ca I will have to look at medical insurance in more detail...as a visitor several times a year though we seem to fall between the gaps!...as for beer..most Brits do not know there is life beyond Budweiser..there is!

I have far less faith in medicine (and Doctors) since I tend to hear with greater frequency NHS accounts such as this:
11-Year-Old Boy Partially Deaf for Nine Years Is Suddenly Cured.
Apparently For 9 years doctors missed the fact that he had a wad of cotton stuck in his ear and diagnosed him as deaf, and that was that...
"I had always suspected Jerome had stuck something in his ear when he was little and that was causing the problem. But the doctors and hearing specialists said it was wax and he would probably grow out of it."
"I am amazed they didn't spot something as obvious as a cotton wool bud."

Sounds like criminal negligence to me, call John Edwards!
