Spraece Englisc tung.

When over the water in California I try to try and fit in with everyday life and not think too much about life in England .Occasionally though I do miss the feeling of being rooted in the land through the history that surrounds you in England.Knowing that possibly dozens of generations of your family have inhabited an area does make you feel closer to a location.I also enjoy the freedom from past entanglements and class connotations that life in America brings..its definitely more conducive to a more enterprising culture in the least part.I'm proud of being English/Irish/Welsh...British I suppose...but I'm equally happy to plan a future that may involve leaving everything behind one day.....it's not like the history is going away ,so I can always dip into it when my Englishness gets a bit Californiarised!

Nice image! You can sure see where that one's been on its way to becoming - and there'll always be the Domsday Book.

I know what you mean, or at least I can imagine it. I've spent a lot of time in a city in Kent which still has Roman bits of wall, as well as a Cathedral which dates back to the Norman period, and it's always made me wonder what it's like to feel like your ancestors walked by the very same walls and stones. I imagine that must be a very grounding and comforting feeling. Coming from there, the whole of the Ozarks feel like home to me, as though they belong to me. But, on the other hand, we all are like trains passing through the desert at night, only here temporarily. There's something liberating about accepting those limitations.

Except death and paper coffins. You and I won't be checking in for that part of the program. :)

By the way - I thought I looked to see if you had a blog before and you didn't - I spose you just started this one?
