64 years ago 3 gliders of British troops led by Major John Howard crashed through the trees of Normandy to capture an enemy held bridge in a small action that was part of the greater 'operation Overlord'. Major Howard led his men on an ultimately successful mission into the teeth of a battle hardened Nazi army prepared to sacrifice his life to help liberate an occupied Europe. Along with countless thousands of fellow Brits, Americans and Canadians , Major Howard fought in the name of Democracy and freedom......something that our politicians need to think carefully about as they casually give away our national sovereignty and curtail our domestic customs and freedom.
