True Brit 13

Not a war hero or a great politician but a comedian is this weeks true Brit. Terry-Thomas was a quintessential British character who enlivened the austere post war years with his raffish dodgy English bounder persona. T-T would no doubt be viewed today by sophisticates at the BBC etc as an embarrassing relic of Britain's past...but to me and many more...his humour is part of what makes a Brit...truly British...all together now..I saaaaay!

Fabulous man - BUT essentially an Englishman. I cannot recall Terry Thomas describing himself as anything other than an Englishman.

Of course if you still think of British and English as the same thing, then the mistake is forgivable - just!

The English/British debate is fraught with difficulties but I use both as I tend to refer to a time when we were proud to be both.

Growing up during the fifties and sixties here in the US, he was the person that came to mind when someone talked about an Englishman.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out his name the other day.

I remember him from mad mad mad world.

He was also portrayed or characterized in many cartoons in the 50's and 60's
