As the dark wet days of winter set in,family OTW are counting down the days until our next trip to our home in California....8 weeks to go! I have always considered myself as very English but over the last few years my dislike of what England has become has increased my long nurtured love of America.I have a large family in America that has established itself over the last 50 years and whilst I always enjoyed visiting I never until quite recently considered emigration as an option. Having a home in California has given me a chance to see what living in America is like as opposed to holidaying and I have found that if anything, everyday life has further convinced me that my and my family's future lies in America.The election of Obama,a man whose politics are the antithesis of mine has in no way changed my mind as I feel America is much bigger than any one man and will survive whatever he may or may not do.Many Americans believe rightly or wrongly that their country has seen its best days and the future is going to be a story of gradual decline.I politely have to disagree with this view...America is still the land that allows people to further their ambitions or shelter from the storms that wrack other less fortunate nations.....for me the future lies over the water.

Hooray for the USA!

probably a good choice, I imagine Spanish is easier to learn than Urdu or Arabic
I have never come across any Mexicans so I think my version of Inglish misunderstood as it is in America will have to do.

i often fondly think of england, i have thought of what it would be like to have fish and chips in a newspaper once again....i yearn for english lads on a rain soaked american type feet ball field, or as you blokes call it soccer...i miss my people, the allens, daltons and barlows, and thought how living there in retirement might just be the cat's meow because my neighbors make me mad, but then again british blokes might make me mad also...my politics in practical purposes are like yours, but idealogically your government makes more sense to me

Putz, nostalgia isn't what it used to be.... the use of newspaper to wrap chips is forbidden for health reasons... the cheerful chippy owner is likely to be Ali or Mohammed.
If you do come back in a few years time you will find few Aboriginal English left..... say hello if you see me sitting alongside the road in the English Reservation on Salisbury Plain.... I will be selling hand crafted tat, icons of a once great nation.
