A crying shame.

Every British casualty in Afghanistan is a great loss and for the respective family a tragedy.Every casualty in one of the Viking vehicles (and others) is not just tragic but criminal and somebody needs to be held responsible. For once it isn't just our military hating nulabour government acting in it's usual parsimonious fashion but the fault too of our army commanders. The M.O.D. and Army higher ups only wish to procure equipment suitable for fighting sweeping mechanised operations more suited to cold war Europe (not totally without merit) and not ungainly anti mine vehicles that will protect the troops now.The wars we fight now are it seems the wars of the next decade and as such our troops need equipping with the already tried and tested vehicles currently in use by other in theatre nations...our lads deserve the best...right now.

We'll never get this with the current shower of cowards in government.

"The M.O.D. and Army higher ups only wish to procure equipment suitable for fighting sweeping mechanised operations more suited to cold war Europe" - strictly speaking they want air-portable vehicles for expecitionary actions by the ERRF, like the FRES family. If only the MoD could spend its pocket money sensibly instead of wasting it criminally then there would be a watertight case against McBroon's penny-pinching. If you want another example of waste, check out the IVECO Panther Rupert Taxi on Defence of the Realm. Now fewer than 330 of the 401 bought will be used for training in the UK. They only cost £400k each - upgrading 67 for Afghanistan is another £300k each. Odd when better vehicles can be bought for £250k.
