Door to door lunatic.

I have been constantly haunting the roads, lanes and villages around my would be new home for the last few weeks,in fact I'm surprised I haven't been arrested. If you live in a nice quiet house in the country and you see somebody contorting at weird angles, mumbling distractedly whilst trying to photograph doors, ridges and copings your first reaction I suppose would be to call 999. Don't worry folks it is more than likely just me feeding my growing love of all things Victorian,Gothic,Regency...well hell...just anything old. The picture above is of a door next to a quite modestly sized cottage (it's a shame about the awful guttering however),but just look at the detail. Yes,a door but the work and the detail make it for me an object of desire that furthers my admiration of the workers who could once create such pieces on a regular basis.Today such custom work is possible but Oh the cost!.....time to sharpen my tools methinks.

Not just the door, but the door/gateframe itself is magnificent, not least by virtue of the whole structure's utterly overblown nature. Marvellous!

So it was you a few weeks ago when we seen someone photographing your pad from Whitehouse Lane, who cut your hedge, hell those tractors with hedge cutters don't cut but rip the hedge to pieces, still a lovely place though,I do keep a lookout on your pad as I go past it but the only one I saw was a month ago with farmer Giles and his tractor going down the lane, still the place needs two young tearaways to waken it from it's slumbers :-)and the farm next door needs them to learn to ride the horses, the stone looks like Storeton stone, looks as if it was built by the same stonemason that built Thornton Hough, thinking about it,Lever bought the Storeton Estates in 1909 to add to the part of Wirral he already owned, there was another guy but can't remember his name who also helped to Thornton Hough to the beauty it is today, when are you taking that for sale sign down otherwise I will stop and nick it for firewood.

Anon...sign should come down around the 6th of Aug so when it does drop me a line.I met farmer next door and he seems a decent guy plus his mate asked could he put a couple of beehives in my plac for free honey I may as well say yes.I have a feeling that I may need to have more than 2 little uns to fill the place.

Went for a walk at Thurstaston beach today really to look if there is anything left of the Starfish site (wwii bomber decoy site) in the fields, found a few bits of the steel screw they used to hang barbed wire on and used a pair binocs to see the control bunker on private land, the amount of good sandstone on the beach got me thinking on how to get it up the cliffs for repair use on some buildings that are built of it.

By coincidence I visited 2 places today to look at sandstone for rebuilding that brick extension on gate lodge...saw some decent stuff, not inferior Indian stuff everybody imports.

Must be on the same wavelength, did you check that garden centre next to the car sales opposite the Pargate Road he had some bits that had been removed from some old building, this was a while back but you never know, you gotta get the best Bunter sandstone.

Love the corner-window/archer-slots, a man's gotta be able to have enfilading fire. For real FUN stuff in room re-modeling, these guys do some *interesting* custom installation work.
That's the kind of thing that I would love to have in a home - but it ain't happening in this little condo...
