Bunker mentality

The pic above shows where until yesterday a brick walled, asbestos roofed building stood. Now after a bit of hard graft, some turf laying and fencing we have a much pleasanter view. One puzzling thing though was the fact that the overlarge pad the building stood on consisted of foot thick concrete. Why a foot thick? for just storing mowers etc? or was it as I like to think a relic of the cold war? In my addled mind my humble shed served a dual purpose as an alternative site for England's blue streak project...or maybe not!

A raft foundation because of soil conditions/ proximity of large tree?

Gallimaufry...a possibility but the building was pretty old(not the roof though and could have been placed anywhere....I like my 50's Dan Dare dual usage as I do lead a dull life.

Not much of a scar to give the game away. You should have been a plastic surgeon!

So when Princess OTW the elder wants a pony in that paddock I suppose you will build another shelter for it,that base would have been nice for a 10kw generator, seeing your power is overhead, now remembering who had the place before you, cold war relic's come to mind,I do know some of these big old country houses used to have that cold war warning bleeper in the cellars, the only cold war shelters I do know of was Birkenhead Tech College now gone, one now used for offices wont tell you where that one is and the ROC one that is buried under 30 foot of landfill on an ex Wirral RAF Station, but I suppose Cheshire Wife doesn't live to far away from that secret bunker.

It was a really ugly shed, looks much better without it.
