Barging in.

I did have quite a list of work to be done today but after an hour or so I decided to let myself have a bit of a rest day. Guilt however is a fierce task driver and so in an effort to compromise with myself (mad me?) I decided to spend the afternoon drawing up plans for the making of the many barge (verge) boards needed here. Books and the web have given me a decent idea of what I am after but the practicalities of construction and cost are two factors that need careful consideration. The example pictured above is of a relatively simple design but I feel it will serve as a starting point for the effect I wish to achieve when coupled with finials and other associated woodwork....so its whistle while I whittle!

You designed that?

sorry to criticise but too fussy ! would look good on a High Victorian pew or on a confessional

because a thing is possible to make doesn't make it the thing to make.

It would be a sod to paint neatly and a few re-paintings with the attendant drips and slubs would blur all the detail to make it look simpler in any case...so simpler to start with would be easier and better. Put the effort into finding top quality timber and undercoat.

haddock...I do like to make like difficult, you are right about wood quality though as I'm having a time of it finding anything remotely decent.

I like it, fussy or no. That would be a joy to view daily. :)
