Liverpool sights 2

Every self respecting Englishman has a local and mine for many years was the Philharmonic pub in Liverpool's hope st. (as described in cathedral post) Meeting up for a couple of swift pints on a Friday evening before starting off our night around town was a weekly tradition. The pub itself with its marble and polished wood was a great place to warm up to a night out and as a plus they served a great Guinness.Apparently the pub had been a favourite of such individuals as John Lennon but by my day he had firmly entered the world of hippy madness and a pint of Guinness was way below his drug induced madness, maybe he should have stuck to mild? Although I no longer frequent the now tourist inhabited 'Phil' I am glad that a new clientele is keeping the place going and hopefully admiring the work that went into such a magnificent gin palace.

It also has the most ornate Gents that I've ever relieved myself in.

It's going back a while for me but I think they served Walkers Warrington ales - which were very pleasant.

Lakelander...the toilets were so grand it was almost as much fun getting rid of the drink as in imbibing it the first place.

when you mention this pub to most they always seem to admire the lav, which if my memory serves were Armatage Shanks produced and a local employer of my home area and of which i had visited as an engineer. anyway good booze and one of the first places that got me onto fine whiskey.
