As a youngster I was far from the Blessed Margarets biggest fan, in fact I swallowed the lefty media cant with gusto. Her championing of western freedom and her opposition to communist Russia did however finally win me over to her side as I always realised that here in the west, life was as good, free and worth defending as it could get. Now it seems the great lady is seeing out her final days and I can only sadly reflect upon the massive presence and shadow the Iron lady once cast. Todays 'peas in a pod' tri party lookalikes all seem to be just so much puff and froth whereas with Lady Thatcher you could actually believe that her words would become deeds and not just so many ephemeral headlines. I know she had many faults and some of her decisions are today the source of much dissatisfaction but all in all the Lady along with her partner in arms President Ronald Reagan deserve honouring before we are left bereft in a land ruled by political chancers and moral midgets.

All things must pass

Four bad PMs and two bad Presidents have been disaterous for us.

Maggie certainly didn't get everything right - but what stuck in the craw of many of her critics was that, despite the plummy accent, she came from a thoroughly working class background and had earned a crust in Industry. She was a 'conviction' politician. Compare that with Anthony Charles Lynton Bliar or Edward Samuel Millipede, and you wonder when the Socialist Tendency gave up on the Class War.....
Thatcher, Reagan, Gorbachev, we were lucky that three giants were in control at a critical time.... it's enough to make you weep if you compare their modern day counterparts to them.
We now have pygmy politicians where we used to have statesmen.
The obits will be more than extensive.
I am not one much to go to book signings, but I went to hers when she did a signing tour of the States in about 1994 or 1995 - and I'm so glad I did. She was very elegant, proper and tastefully fetching (for her age!) in a dark, polka-dot dress. She was a Grande Dame. Bless her, and thank goodness for people like her and Reagan with true backbone and principle in spite of all the naysayers.
The minor moral midgets would have to climb up a hill just to get to the bottom of a ditch.
Minor strokes are incredibly physically debilitating and can take a person down hard - they killed my father-in-law.
Nobody over here knew or could tell any of the difference between Brit accents, plummy or jammy or jellied or otherwise.
