Tebowing

As my fav NFL team the Green Bay Packers storms through the season wiping out all opposition you would think that sports commentators would be focusing on the chances of the pack reaching their magical 16th win...but no, Tim Tebow seems to be dominating many pundits columns. In fact his fame (infamy to the lefties) has transcended the sports pages and is making waves in twitter land and the general blogosphere. The thought that a christian sportsman may wish to openly live a Christian life instead of hiding his beliefs is causing some grief, how dare he pray in public!...maybe he should do a Michael Vick and kill some poor animals, that way Obama will come onside and everything will be forgiven by the christian hating libs.....not much chance of that though

The mere mention of Michael Vick's name makes me feel ill, as does the fawning over him by the media and in particular sports commentators.
Funny, watching a rerun of The Rogers Cup Womens Tennis Tournament last night, the first person Serena Williams thanked was "Jehovah her God". Pity she didn't channel Jehovah when she threatened to ram a tennis ball down a linesperson's throat a year ago, and this year when she had a fit at an umpire...very Christian-like behaviour! But, then Vick and Williams have something in common don't they?

Yes, a free pass to behave as if they have no reason to feel shame or self restraint, a pass provided by libs who apparently think the rest of us have something to be guilty about.

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Matthew 6:5 and 6:6

Oh no! thats my post completely demolished...mind you that would make the sermon on the mount and the last supper a bit of a washout. When Tebow prays he is alone, maybe you just don't get it.

You don't half attract some nutters, I do include myself in that comment.

Don't know part of playing rugby was getting sloshed out of your braincell before and after a game, rugby is just a way of introducing your self to like head cases, after kicking the stuffing out of each other, you know us Brits have problems making friends until we have been introduced to each other.

albert...there are nutters and then there are NUTTERS! I;m all for mindless behaviour from our players but I'd just like them to win as well.

Good to know in your mind a football game is equal to the sermon on the mount and the last supper....

I see god in all his works both large and small....even tiny little creatures such as yourself.

I presume anon, Matthew 7:1 includes you not doing the judging or is it because your such a beautiful person your beyond being judged and only have room for judging others, I think you need to find a cold stream and dunk your head in your single braincell is overheating.

Just reading comments here is enlightening. I was in the Emergency room a couple of days ago (Nothing serious) and my son was called. I was being unreasonable. They needed a family member. My sons alarm went off and he and his intended reached out and started to pray. Semi public I guess but I joined in - they honor their commitment to prayer and God according to their agreement where ever they are. So what if there are people around. They aren't doing it for others they are doing it for their love of God and again I use the word commitment. God Bless your football player. I save myself much aggravation by never turning on the tube. The blogs keep me busy and amused. Keep it up luv. Lorraine

Oh, so THAT is what the fuss is about. I've heard references to him, but I'm largely out of the entire sports loop, despite being in Texas where football is a religion all its own. Good on him for expressing himself-- that takes a lot of cojones these days. This seems a lovely contrast to the prancing, mincing acts of self-celebration one usually associates with endzones in American football. :)

Now I just read the comments and I'm a little surprised by the contentious nature of Anonymous. Lorraine points out some nice things about prayer. And Tebow, though he is an entertainer (that's was sports is-- entertainment), his relationship as an active member of that sport will be brief, but his relationship with God is ever-present and I can fully understand the urge to acknowledge that at times of personal success when he feels he has been carried to that end. I'm struck by the contrast of all the gangster rappers and obscene pop tarts who sell their music rife with violence, misogyny and sex and then get up to the podium at awards programs and thank God for their success. Vulgar, indeed.
