Times past
Having just returned from a great summer holiday in my adopted home town of Walnut Creek California to my little bit of England I have had time for a little reflection on how I would like to live the rest of my life. I'm quite content with my lot and don't plan any major changes just tweeks here and there to make life somewhat better for my wife and children. The picture above shows Liverpool's Byrom terrace back in 1933 and more than likely contains various family members, friends and perhaps even my grandmother who when this was taken was pregnant with my mother.Although I know the family was happy I am aware that living conditions where less than easy a fact that makes me even more thankful that within a generation or two this country has enabled my family to fare so well.God bless England...what a great place.

Very thoughtful post Thud and welcome back too!
Perhaps your return and this little reminder are connected?
Great people make great places and those people would soon help defeat Nazi Germany. Perhaps that's why those people, or to give them a better name, us, deserved the changes after the war to give more people a fairer life. Forgive me for going a bit Danny Boyle on you.
Glad you all enjoyed your summer hols. Back to work! :)
Brian, two of my uncles who lived in that street did indeed go and do their bit.
And a happy birthday to our gran (12th September).
Yes you seem to have this one carved out not badly. Long may it continue.
It put things into perspective and makes me feel bad about grumbling. Lump in throat in fact.
I just don't like seeing our country gifted to just about anyone who turns up and have a horrible feeling that we're going backwards.
